Low vision workers compared to other disabled workers

The project "discrimination of disabled people at work" has in its interview section taken a broader view of disabled people at work than was originally planned. The concentration is now to understand and describe the whole situation of disable people at work. A colleague of mine has interviewed 200 mobility disabled and I have interviewed 209 visually impaired about them and their work. Some of the people who were interviewed had also hearing difficulties, speech problems or mental disturbances. All included in the project were interviewed by telephone. They were asked a great number of questions depending on disability, work and other circumstances. The answers have been gathered in statistics. The people who were interviewed have been divided in groups depending on kind of disability, severity of disability, type of employment, kind of work, kind of education and income in comparison to other employed and so on. Furthermore the degree of discrimination is discussed. The interviews do not show that disable people at work as a whole are discriminated but some individuals gives examples of discrimination.

In my performance at the conference I will talk about differences and similarities between the low vision people at work compared to other disabled groups. The research report Hännestrand B. "Funktionsbegränsade människor i arbetslivet" is planned to be completed in time for the conference and could also be mentioned.
