This study obtained information form seven eye clinics in the southern sector of Ghana. In all 12048 people were covered in the survey. The objective of this study is to ascertain the incidence rate of visual impairment for the past five years, that is, from 1996-2000. Information was obtained through perusal of the medical records from seven eye clinics in Southern Ghana. The scientific/quantitative approach was used for the study, as there is a knowable and objective truth about incidence of visual impairment that can be measured and quantified scientifically. The results of the study revealed that the major incidence of visual impairment in the southern sector of Ghana were glaucoma and cataract with trachoma being the least recorded within the period under review. However, the cases of cornea opacity, injuries, ocular tumour, vitamin 'A' deficiency, ophthalmia neonatorum and a host of unknown visual problems were also pretty high.
