PURPOSE:
To stress the importance of a correct diagnosis in cases of optic disc pallor in adults 65 years of age
METHODS:
- The difference between a normal optic disc and optic disc pallor is outlined.
- All the major causes (such as glaucoma, infectious disease, nutritional disease, vascular disease, trauma, hereditary disease, congenital anomalies, toxicity, radiation, compressive lesions,...) are reviewed
RESULTS:
A correct diagnosis can prevent loss of vision and systemic complications
