Abstract: Detailed visual profiles can explicit relation's between visual impairments, (dis)abilities, participation and development (Vision 1993, "Suggestions for the classification..."). Assessments are done on each level of the visual profile. For collecting data on activity and participation level, a revision and elaboration has been made of the Visual Disability and Handicap Profile (Colenbrander & Fletcher, 1993), named VAP: informant's give their judgment in visual abilities, self-sufficiency, participation and special visual education (only for parents) on 40 sub-area's of daily life (Vision 1999, project "Visual perception and development" - age 6-21). We present the finally result, especially the judgments of 28 youngsters and 36 parents collected with the VAP.
Results: The mean total scores are near normal in visual abilities and normal on self-sufficiency, participation and special visual education! However there is a great discrepancy on the different (sub)area's of daily life activities and between persons. The scores are related to the type of visual impairment, higher visual functions and with intelligence.
Conclusion: Judgments of youngsters with visual disabilities and judgments of their parents about the effects in daily life, do give a better insight in the needs for rehabilitation and the educational consequences (Vision 1999, Guide ISLRR).
